How do believers defend a god who is going to murder billions and pin it on them?
by tootired2care inat that time those slain by the lord will be everywherefrom one end of the earth to the other.
they will not be mourned or gathered up or buried, but will be like dung lying on the ground.

I must say before I was exposed to the WBTS, I was agnostic and thought the Bible was benign but having seen My Bible Stories and realized that stuff come sform the Bible - albeit selectively used - it made me question whether the Bible itself is a document that uses fear to manipulate believers. I certainly now have a much better understanding of the expression 'God Fearing' - who wouldn't be when reading the passages quoted.

Qualified to be elders?
by Andyman inthis is an issue that really bothers me.
the elders are supposed to be looking after the well being of the congregation.
they are supposed to be helping those in need.

What is the solution to the problem? It is for the poor old Witnesses to wake up and realize that by putting your trust in elders, you are putting your lives and happiness at risk. They are the black shirts (the SS) putting the orders of the (Nazi) High Command into practice. They are following orders and so if anything goes wrong they would adopt the Nuremburg defence. They are selected for their narrow-minded black and white devotion to the rule of the WBTS. They are generally ignorant and narrow-minded. Friend - a clear apologist - suggests they are well-meaning - that may be the case but their point of reference is so narrow (carry out the orders of an organization that uses fear, guilt and shame to manipulate the membership using the BITE technique to be totally subservient) that it is inevitable they will cause harm. I have mentioned this before but it is worth repeating. My sister-in-law committed suicide because of the intervention of elders who threatened her withbeing df'd if she didn't return to her new husband and his family who she had fled. My brain-washed wife excused this as them trying to save her.

Julia - The answer to your question is a resounding yes. My wife is a self-proclaimed pessimist and scans the paper every day for bad news which she delights in pointing out to me. I pint out to here that newspapers don't have an interest in publishing good news stories. Misery is one of the w3ays they get people in - when witnessing it is fundamental to get the householder to agree how bad things are. I love pointing out all the ways the wordl in which live is better than it was 50 or 100 years ago. This really has them back-pedalling. Cheers and 'keep on looking on the bright side of life' (thanks Monty Python) Frazzled

Syria limited strike and consquences
by d inwhat do you think would be the result if we go the u.s goes thorough striking syria?
i fear that it will drag the u.s into a vietnam like situation and this will hurt our economy..

metatron - I don't think the US or Syria will want a war with Iran - it woudl be wya too messy and create further instability on top of Iraq and Syria. theg Israelis are proabably desperate to launch an airstrike on the Iran nuclear facilities but I htink since the Israelis did that in in the 1980s the Iranians ahve gotten cleverer about hiding the facility. The economic sanctions on Iran are starting to bite. In any case, why should Israel be the only country in the region with a nuclear capability and why don't the US impose sanctions on Israel to get them to destroy their nuclear capability? Also whetehr or not war is beneficial to the US economcy depends on teh circumstances - WWII ended teh depression by creating employment and stimulating the economcy but Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan have hurt the US economy becuase of how much it has cost the government.

Hello everyone....another newbie here
by KWJoe ini made my first post yesterday on an earlier topic about celebrating holidays.
just lois invited me to introduce myself.....hi jl.
where to start?

Hi JWJoe - Welcome, good to have you on board. I found your story interesting and recognize how tough it must have been for you growing up thinking you were damned if you followed your natural instincts. My brother-in-law is gay in a very JW family - he was never baptized but stays within the family fold. My wife, who is a Witness, told me that 'all his friends are gay and he has never had a girlfriend but he is not gay' - oh the denial they go through.
I see him as a potential asset in my attempts to get to my wife as she is close to him. I think it would be wonderful if he could tell his story to my wife so she could start to understand how harmful the WBTS is but I recognise that this would be very challenging for him. I have been commuicated with him and sense that he is still subject to the thinking even though he was never baptized as he doesn't seem to understand just how manipulative the WBTS is. I have suggested that he read JWFacts and freeminds. He hasn't acknowledged to me that he is gay adn is quite quarded in his discussiosn with me but is slowly opening up. If he does open up it might be good for me to put him in touch with you as I am sure you would have a lot to share.

The way they unquestioning treat God and the orgnaization as almost one and the same.
I asked my wife what the talk was at the KH the other night. After much prompting to get a response she said 'Jeremiah'. Me 'What was the lesson from Jeremiah?' Her 'He was a good example of showing loyalty to Jehovah.' Me 'And what happens to those who don't show loyatly to Jehovah, bad things right?' her 'Yes.' Adn when you think of Jehovah you also think of his organization so being loyal to Jehovah means being loyal to his organization.' Her 'Of course!' said in the tone of someone stting the bleeding obvious to a blithering idiot.
So what gets me is how the WBTS has so successfully got Witnesses to treat them as if they were God and then manipulate the Bible to get their unquestioning loyalty and obedience. and the poor Witnesses never realize the chicken and egg problem - that is in order to give the organization this status you have to be convinced they are who they say they are and this requires questioning thier claim. But those sneaky bastards bypassed this by getting the Witnesses to accept this claim without question ab initio by indoctrinating them from childhood. So I cannot succeed with the argument that before you give the organisation the same loyalty you give god you need to test the organization's claim to be the representative of God and the way to do this is to study the history of the organization. This is what drives me crazy.

Aust. Election in 1 week - A review of Kevin Rudd, PM
by fulltimestudent ini'm still determined not to vote - just to write something unpleasant about pollies on the ballot paper.
if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).
they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

You guys still arguing the big humanist vs realist debate on boat people - good luck with that - very tough to work out a policy that can accomodate both. One point I would make is that political debates and decisions involve value judgements and don't have right or wrong answers. So trying to prove you're absolutely right and the person with the other view is absolutely wrong is pretty much a waste of time and name calling and accusations of lying etc. are similarly fruitless. Any chance you are applying entrenched black and white thinking to politics and if so I wonder where that comes from? Still I admire your passion for political discourse.
Anyways, back to the Ruddster - I was very interested to read the diagnosis of him as a Grandiose Narcissist (Narcissistic Supply eat your heart out) and I must say from what I heard about working with him, this rings true (and before anyone wants to accuse me of political bias, I am a life long Labor man who can't abide Abbott). So it got me to thinking - what about Rutherford - he seems to have had all the same characteristics and stamped his mark on the organization. could be an interesting study to do a psychological study of Rutehr ford and show the legacy of his pathological personality for teh organization and its memebers.
